Brief Biography of
Speakers
James B. Robinson
Dr.
Robinson currently serves as the Head Team Physician
at the University of Alabama, a position he has held
since 1989. He did his undergraduate studies and
medical school at L.S.U. He did his residency in
Family Practice at the Tuscaloosa Family Practice
Residency Program and did a Fellowship in Primary
Care Sports Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.
He
has practiced Family Practice and Sports Medicine
since 1989 by founding West Alabama Family Practice
and Sports Medicine, taking care of all levels of
athletes from children to the Olympics.
Isaac T. Conner, Esq.
A native of Knoxville, Mr. Conner focuses his
practice on the areas of general insurance casualty
defense litigation and sports law. He joined Lewis
King in 2004. Before joining Lewis King, he served
one year as a law clerk for state trial court Judge
Thomas W. Brothers. Mr. Conner went to undergraduate
and graduate school at the University of Tennessee
at Chattanooga where he received his B.S. in
Psychology and Masters in Community Counseling. He
was a varsity basketball player and won two Southern
Conference Championships and was a starter on the
team that advanced to the NCAA Sweet-Sixteen. After
receiving his Masters degree, he attended and
received his law degree from the University of
Tennessee with a concentration in trial advocacy.
While in law school, he was awarded the 2003
International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Trial
Advocate Award, 2003 Order of Barristers, 2003 Deans
Citation, and 2003 Community Shares Seed of Change.
Mr. Conner’s current
clients are State Farm of Middle Tennessee and
Zurich Insurance Co. His representation includes the
defense of matters involving personal injury,
premises liability and workers’ compensation claims.
He also is a licensed Sports Agent and represents
athletes international markets. In addition to his
practice, Mr. Conner serves as general counsel of
Kappa Alpha Psi’s South Central Province, Board
President of the Street Theatre Company and serves
as a mentor in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters
program.
Mr. Conner is a member
of the American Bar Association, National Bar
Association, Tennessee Bar Association, the
Nashville Bar Association and the Napier-Looby Bar
Association.
Brief Description of
Presentation
The goals of this
presentation are: to discuss the physiological
changes that occur with pregnancy, to discuss
exercise and sports participation by the pregnant
athlete, and to discuss the controversies facing the
pregnant athlete at the Collegiate level and the
High School level.
“Legal Ramifications of
Pregnant Student Athletes from Varied Perspectives”
The discussion we will be based on pregnant student
athletes and the different issues, Athletic
Directors, Coaches, Trainers, and Student Athletes
must consider when an athlete gets pregnant.
