33rd Annual SEATA Clinical Symposium & Members Meeting

The 2008 SEATA Clinical Symposium and Members Meeting was held February 28 - March 2 at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs in Franklin, TN. There were over 285 in attendance with a out of district attendees from Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin.  There were over 40 vendors present including our Corporate Partners: Gatorade, Sports Health Supply, Breg, and Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center.

The meeting began with the
NATA sponsored One Day Workshop: Manual Therapy Techniques for the Lower Extremity on Thursday.

SEATA President MaryBeth Horodyski and the SEATA Executive Board continued their work to improve the SEATA organization.  They arrived a 1/2 day early to continue work on the SEATA Strategic Plan, as well as the SEATA By-Laws and Policy and Procedure Manual.  The group worked a day and a half discussing changes and improvements and felt the meeting accomplished quite a bit.

The annual meeting’s theme revolved around the Bone & Joint Decade and
was organized by the Research and Education Committee (co-chaired by Carl Mattacola and Marisa Colston).  Mini-courses and presentations were provided on Knee Dissection, Emergency Evaluation and the Management of Head and Cervical Spine Trauma, and Management of Cardiac Arrest, General Medical Evaluation: Heart & Lungs, Orthotic Fabrication, The Clinical Neurological Exam for Athletic Trainers, Family, Athletic Training and the Great Juggling Act, Pregnancy and Participation, General Medical Conditions:  Things You Cannot Afford to Miss, Cartilage Restoration and Meniscal Repair, The Athlete's Hip: Assessment & Management, Evidence-Based Hip Evaluation, Current Concepts on Patellofemoral Pain, and Introduction to Performing Arts Medicine.

The Tim Kerin Memorial Awards Luncheon included scholarships, awards and the 2008 SEATA Hall of Fame classSEATA Scholarship recipients were presented followed by recognition of the numerous SEATA Award winners as detailed below. SEATA recognized and inducted eleven new members to the SEATA Hall of Fame as the 2008 class..

The SEATA Annual Business Meeting including numerous updates from the SEATA Executive Board and the State Organizations as well as several informative reports by numerous SEATA and NATA Committees.  Despite the lateness of the day a significantly large number of the registrant remained to hear the business of the association.

On Saturday night, the Hall of Fame Reception was held which featured historical presentations by SEATA Hall of Fame Inductees Jay Shoop, John Anderson, R.T. Floyd, Bob Goodwin, and Chuck Kimmel.  These were video taped and are will be available via the SEATA Hall of Fame when the editing has been completed
