Brief Biography of Speakers

R. Daniel Martin, EdD, ATC

Dr. R. Daniel Martin, ATC: Graduated with EdD degree in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis in Clinical Sports Medicine as well as M S degree in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University.

He is currently a Professor and Chair of the Division of Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation and Director of Athletic Training at Marshall University.  He has been heavily involved with the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Association to promote and insure medical coverage for athletes during athletic events. He serves on numerous local and statewide academic committees and has given over 100 presentations on various sports medicine topics at both state and national conferences.  He has published numerous abstracts and research articles in national journals as well as in textbooks.

Gary E. McIlvain, MS ATC

Gary E. McIlvain, MS, ATC:  Graduated from Lipscomb University in 1993 and worked as an athletic trainer at Lipscomb until May of 1998.  After leaving Lipscomb Gary attended MTSU and graduated in 1999 with his MS in Health.  Gary began teaching at Marshall University in the Fall of 1999 in the ATEP and currently is an assistant professor at Marshall and ABD at the University of Kentucky.  Gary serves as the ATEP clinical coordinator at Marshall and has served as the medical director and head athletic trainer for the Huntington Heroes Arena Football team.

Brief Description of Presentation

The Clinical Neurological Exam for Athletic Trainers workshop is designed to review the neurological exam of an athlete and to provide ample time for hands-on practice for the participants.
