Do you know an individual who should be recognized for their outstanding contribution to the profession as a SEATA or NATA member?

If so, take a few moments to nominate them as explained below.

SEATA is now accepting nominations for the 2009 SEATA Hall of Fame, Jack C. Hughston, M.D. Sportsmedicine Person of the Year, Award of Merit, District Award, Backbone Award, High School Athletic Trainer Award, Clinical/Industrial/Corporate Athletic Trainer Award, College/University Athletic Trainer Award, Professional Athletic Trainer Award, Education/Administration Award, Sponsor's Award.

The NATA accepts nominations for the Hall of Fame, Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award, Athletic Trainer Service Award, President’s Challenge Award and Honorary Membership. Nominations will be accepted August 1 – November 15.

SEATA Honors and Awards Program

Deadline for submitting nominations for 2009 is Jan. 1, 2009

Hall of Fame: The SEATA Hall of Fame is designed to recognize and honor those members of our District who performed extraordinary service and brought honor to the profession of athletic training particularly at the SEATA level.  Service at local, state, and national levels is considered but service to SEATA is the primary consideration.  Minimum eligibility requirements include 15 years as a certified member working or living in District IX. and at least 20 years of service in the profession.  The nomination period for the 2009 SEATA Hall of Fame will close on Dec. 15, 2008.

Chuck Kimmel Award of Merit:  The highest award given to a member of the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association. Its purpose is to recognize the person that has worked for the District on a national level.  It is a way to distinguish one who has brought honor and recognition to the District.  A distinction reserved for the most able of professionals in the field of athletic training.

Jack C. Hughston, M.D. Sportsmedicine Person of the Year:  This award is given to the person that has contributed to SEATA and athletic training as a profession.  Both medical and non-medical persons have been recipients of this award.  This award is the highest award given to a person who may not be an athletic trainer and is designed to show the district’s appreciation for particular contributions to the field of athletic training in the southeast.

District Award:  There are many people who serve SEATA very well.  It is dedicated to the person who has given of himself or herself to promote, lead, and work for the District.  They may not have served on a national level but have made significant contributions on the district level.

Backbone Award:  One of the first awards given by SEATA.  It is designed to recognize an assistant athletic trainer that has played a major role as backbone to the Head Athletic Trainer.  This award is for the person in the trenches that is there day to day what is needed in the athletic training room, the true professional.  A cash award goes to this recipient.

High School Athletic Trainer Award:  This is an opportunity to recognize someone in the District on the secondary school level.  This honoree has made a major impact on their communities and institution.  Many of these people may not have had their chance to serve on the District or National levels.  However, their importance has been seen in the state and communities where they reside.  They have contributed to the growth and awareness of the profession of athletic training.  A cash award goes to this recipient.

College/University Athletic Trainer Award:  This award will recognize an athletic trainer at the college/university level for service to the institution, the community, as well as SEATA.  This person serves many functions in addition to athletic training.

Clinic/Industrial/Corporate Athletic Trainer Award:  We will honor an athletic trainer that has represented our profession well in a clinic, industrial or corporate environment.  This venue of service enlightens the public to the many benefits of having an athletic trainer in the workplace.

Professional Athletic Trainer Award:  This honor will recognize an athletic trainer associated with a professional sports team in our district.  This recipient will be an athletic trainer involved in professional sports that represents our profession well and makes athletic training more visible.

Education/Administration Award:  Many athletic trainers serve as educators or in administrative positions.  This award is given to a member that is committed to teaching athletic training skills and functioning in a leadership capacity at an institution.

Sponsors Award:  SEATA is very appreciative of our many friends that have supported athletic trainers through the years.  We honor those who have made an impact on our organization through their contributions.

SEATA Awards/Honors

For a complete list of criteria for the awards and honors bestowed by SEATA, please check here.  All recipients  (with the exception of Sports Medicine Person of the Year) must be members of the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association. Deadline for submitting nominations for 2009 is Jan. 1, 2009.

Only SEATA members may formally nominate candidates for awards.  Non-SEATA members may contact the respective SEATA Honors and Awards Committee State Representative to suggest a nomination and provide appropriate documentation.  Nominations open after the Annual SEATA Members Meeting and remain so until the following February 1st.  Online nominations are automatically forwarded to Committee members when submitted and archived via the website for further committee review.  Written nominations may be made to the SEATA Honors and Awards Committee state representative who will, in turn, post the nominee’s information online for all of the committee to review.  Honors and Awards Committee members may also nominate candidates for awards.

NATA Hall of Fame

Award Description
The NATA Hall of Fame was created to recognize members who have demonstrated career excellence in of the athletic training profession. It is the highest honor which may be bestowed upon a member. Therefore, individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame must exemplify the mission statement of the NATA by enhancing the quality of health care provided by athletic trainers and advance the athletic training profession with such qualities as leadership, service, dedication, scholarly activities, promotion and professionalism

Qualifications

  • These elite candidates must have a minimum of twenty-five years as a certified member of the NATA in good standing.*
  • Individuals may be nominated no more than every other year

Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer

Award Description
The Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award is a prestigious honor that recognizes NATA members for their exceptional and unique contributions to the athletic training profession. It reflects a lifetime of dedication to the association and the field of athletic training on the national, district and local levels. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all areas, however this is a national award and contributions at the national level are necessary.  These contributions can include, but are not limited to: leadership and advancement of the association and the profession nationally.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a minimum of twenty years as a certified member of the NATA in good standing.*
  • Hall of Fame members are ineligible for nomination.

Athletic Trainer Service Award

Award Description
The Athletic Trainer Service Award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association. Although this is a national honor, local, state and district service is the focus of this award.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a minimum of fifteen years as a certified member of the NATA in good standing.
  • Hall of Fame members and Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award recipients are ineligible for nomination.

Honorary Membership

Award Description
Honorary membership in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association is an exclusive honor reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the athletic training profession. Though not certified athletic trainers themselves, they have dedicated a significant portion of their careers to advancing, promoting and championing the efforts of our association and its members.

Qualifications

  • Non-NATA members may be nominated
  • Associate, International or Supplier members of NATA may be nominated
  • Non-certified or licensed athletic trainers may be nominated
  • A minimum of 15 years of service to the profession is required

President’s Challenge Award

Award Description
The President’s Challenge award recognizes a lifetime of outstanding contributions that directly impact athletics and athletic training, have a national impact or are of major and lasting importance. This award provides a stimulus for continued service, research and education in the field of athletic health care. It fosters joint recognition among members of the NATA and other disciplines and reminds us of the very important role all groups play in the future of athletic care.

BILL CHISOLM ETHNIC DIVERSITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AWARD

  • This award is presented in recognition of the value, achievements and contributions of any individual who has enhanced the provision of athletic health care to ethnically diverse physically active individuals or who has made significant contributions to the professional development or advancement of ethnically diverse athletic trainers.

SAYERS "BUD" MILLER DISTINGUISHED EDUCATORS AWARD

  • The objective of this award is to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in the field of athletic training education.

  • To be eligible for nomination, individuals must currently be BOC certified, a member of the teaching faculty for 10 years, have evidence of quality in published manuscripts, and in formal oral presentations concerned with issues in athletic training
