SEATA Honors and
Awards Program

Hall of Fame:
The SEATA Hall of Fame is designed
to recognize and honor
those members of our District who performed
extraordinary service and brought honor to the
profession of athletic training particularly at the
SEATA level. Service at local, state, and national
levels is considered but service to SEATA is the primary
consideration. Minimum eligibility requirements
include 15 years as a certified member working or living
in District IX. and at least 20 years of service in the
profession. The nomination period for the 2009
SEATA Hall of Fame will close on Dec. 15, 2008.
Chuck Kimmel Award of Merit:
The highest award given to a member of the Southeast
Athletic Trainers Association. Its purpose is to recognize
the person that has worked for the District on a national
level. It is a way to distinguish one who has brought
honor and recognition to the District. A distinction
reserved for the most able of professionals in the field
of athletic training.
Jack C. Hughston, M.D.
Sportsmedicine Person of the Year:
This award is given to the
person that has contributed to SEATA and athletic training
as a profession. Both medical and non-medical persons
have been recipients of this award. This award is the
highest award given to a person who may not be an athletic
trainer and is designed to show the district’s
appreciation for particular contributions to the field of
athletic training in the southeast.
District Award:
There are many people who serve SEATA very well. It is
dedicated to the person who has given of himself or
herself to promote, lead, and work for the District. They
may not have served on a national level but have made
significant contributions on the district level.
Backbone Award:
One of the first awards given by SEATA. It
is designed to recognize an assistant athletic trainer
that has played a major role as backbone to the Head
Athletic Trainer. This award is for the person in the
trenches that is there day to day what is needed in the
athletic training room, the true professional. A cash
award goes to this recipient.
High School Athletic Trainer Award:
This is an opportunity to
recognize someone in the District on the secondary school
level. This honoree has made a major impact on their
communities and institution. Many of these people may not
have had their chance to serve on the District or National
levels. However, their importance has been seen in the
state and communities where they reside. They have
contributed to the growth and awareness of the profession
of athletic training. A cash award goes to this
recipient.
College/University Athletic Trainer
Award: This award will
recognize an athletic trainer at the college/university
level for service to the institution, the community, as
well as SEATA. This person serves many functions in
addition to athletic training.
Clinic/Industrial/Corporate Athletic
Trainer Award:
We will honor an
athletic trainer that has represented our profession well
in a clinic, industrial or corporate environment. This
venue of service enlightens the public to the many
benefits of having an athletic trainer in the workplace.
Professional Athletic Trainer Award:
This honor will recognize an
athletic trainer associated with a professional sports
team in our district. This recipient will be an athletic
trainer involved in professional sports that represents
our profession well and makes athletic training more
visible.
Education/Administration Award:
Many athletic trainers serve as
educators or in administrative positions. This award is
given to a member that is committed to teaching athletic
training skills and functioning in a leadership capacity
at an institution.

years. We honor those who have made an impact on our
organization through their contributions. |
