SEATA Honors and
Awards Program

Hall of Fame:
The SEATA Hall of Fame is designed
to recognize and honor
those members of our District who performed
extraordinary service and brought honor to the
profession of athletic training particularly at the
SEATA level. Service at local, state, and national
levels is considered but service to SEATA is the primary
consideration. Minimum eligibility requirements
include 15 years as a certified member working or living
in District IX. and at least 20 years of service in the
profession. The nomination period for the 2011 SEATA Hall of Fame will close on
Nov. 15, 2010.

Chuck Kimmel Award of Merit:
The highest award given to a member of the Southeast
Athletic Trainers' Association. Its purpose is to
recognize the person that has worked for the District on
a national level. It is a way to distinguish one
who has brought honor and recognition to the District.
A distinction reserved for the most able of
professionals in the field of athletic training.
The SEATA
Executive Board renamed the SEATA Award of Merit to the
Chuck Kimmel Award of Merit on January 30, 2008 to honor
Chuck Kimmel for his many contributions to the
profession of athletic training through his work in
SEATA and the NATA.
Eligibility
-
Nominees must have 10 years of service as an active
Certified member of SEATA.
-
Nominees must have served in a leadership capacity
for SEATA for a minimum of five (5) years. This may
include serving as an officer, committee chair,
educational program chair, etc.
-
Must be Certified or Retired member of SEATA and in
good standing with his/her respective state, or in
good standing at the time of retirement.
-
Nominees must have exhibited exemplary leadership in
their service role, significantly advancing the
mission and goals of the SEATA and, the profession
of athletic training.

Must be nominated online and a current resume
detailing the above service submitted to the SEATA
Honors and Awards Committee at
awards@seata.org.

Any unsuccessful nomination will be retained and
reconsidered for one additional year after the
original nomination.

This award does not have to be presented annually if
there are no qualified candidate(s) nominated.
Jack C. Hughston, M.D.
Sportsmedicine Person of the Year:
This award is given to the
person that has contributed to SEATA and athletic training
as a profession. Both medical and non-medical persons
have been recipients of this award. This award is the
highest award given to a person who may not be an athletic
trainer and is designed to show the district’s
appreciation for particular contributions to the field of
athletic training in the southeast. This award was
renamed in honor of Dr. Jack C. Hughston, M.D. by the
SEATA Executive Board in December 2004.
Eligibility
-
Nominees must have 15 years of service in an area of
athletic training within the geographical region of
SEATA.

Must be nominated online by 3 people (2 of which
must be certified members of SEATA) providing a
recommendation detailing the nominee’s contributions
to SEATA, or the profession of athletic training.

This award does not have to be presented annually if
there are no qualified candidate(s) nominated.
District Award:
There are many people who serve SEATA very well. It is
dedicated to the person who has given of himself or
herself to promote, lead, and work for the District. They
may not have served on a national level but have made
significant contributions on the district level.
Eligibility
-
Nominees
must be active members of SEATA for at least 10
years, with 5 years immediately preceding their
nomination.

Nominees must have been involved in a specific
initiative/project to further the goals of SEATA.
-
Nominees must have demonstrated measurable outcomes
of their efforts.
-
Nominees must have shown evidence of involving and
leading other members in the process of developing
the project.
-
Must be nominated
online and a current resume detailing the above
service submitted to the SEATA Honors and Awards
Committee at
awards@seata.org.

Backbone Award:
One of the first awards given by SEATA. It
is designed to recognize an assistant athletic trainer
that has played a major role as backbone to the Head
Athletic Trainer. This award is for the person in the
trenches that is there day to day what is needed in the
athletic training room, the true professional. A cash
award goes to this recipient.
Eligibility
-
The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA and
licensed to practice Athletic Training in their
respective state.

The nominee must be employed as an
assistant/associate athletic trainer at any
level/environment.

Must be nominated online and a current resume
detailing the above service submitted to the SEATA
Honors and Awards Committee at

there are no qualified candidate(s) nominated.
High School Athletic Trainer Award:
This is an opportunity to
recognize someone in the District on the secondary school
level. This honoree has made a major impact on their
communities and institution. Many of these people may not
have had their chance to serve on the District or National
levels. However, their importance has been seen in the
state and communities where they reside. They have
contributed to the growth and awareness of the profession
of athletic training. A cash award goes to this
recipient.
Eligibility
-
The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA for
a minimum of 2 years and licensed to practice
Athletic Training in their respective state
-
The nominee must currently be employed/working in
the high school setting in SEATA and possess a total
of 2 years cumulative experience in the setting.
-
If the nominee is employed by a clinic,
then at least half of his/her hours must be working
in the high school setting.

Must be nominated online and a current resume
detailing the above service submitted to the SEATA
Honors and Awards Committee at
awards@seata.org.

there are no qualified candidate(s) nominated.
College/University Athletic Trainer
Award: This award will
recognize an athletic trainer at the college/university
level for service to the institution, the community, as
well as SEATA. This person serves many functions in
addition to athletic training.
Eligibility

The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA for
a minimum of 2 years and licensed to practice
Athletic Training in their respective state

The nominee must currently be employed in a college,
university or community college setting in SEATA
and possess a total of 2 years cumulative
experience in the setting.

Clinic/Industrial/Corporate Athletic
Trainer Award:
We will honor an
athletic trainer that has represented our profession well
in a clinic, industrial or corporate environment. This
venue of service enlightens the public to the many
benefits of having an athletic trainer in the workplace.
Eligibility

The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA for
a minimum of 2 years and licensed to practice
Athletic Training in their respective state

The nominee must currently be employed in a clinic,
industrial or corporate environment in SEATA and
possess a total of 2 years cumulative experience in
the setting.

detailing the above service submitted to the SEATA
Honors and Awards Committee at

Professional Athletic Trainer Award:
This honor will recognize an
athletic trainer associated with a professional sports
team in our district. This recipient will be an athletic
trainer involved in professional sports that represents
our profession well and makes athletic training more
visible.
Eligibility

The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA for
a minimum of 2 years and licensed to practice
Athletic Training in their respective state

The nominee must be employed in a professional sport
environment and possess a total of 2 years
cumulative experience in the setting.

Honors and Awards Committee at

Education/Administration Award:
Many athletic trainers serve as
educators or in administrative positions. This award is
given to a member that is committed to teaching athletic
training skills and functioning in a leadership capacity
at an institution.
Eligibility

The nominee must be a certified member of SEATA for
a minimum of 2 years and licensed to practice
Athletic Training in their respective state

Nominees must show specific evidence of making a
significant educational/administrative contribution
to the SEATA membership.

Sponsors Award:
SEATA is very appreciative of our many
friends that have supported athletic trainers through the
years. We honor those who have made an impact on our
organization through their contributions.
Eligibility

This award is open to businesses, medical practices,
and organizations that have supported healthcare
services above and beyond the expected, in support
of athletic trainers in SEATA.
