SEATA Scholarships Available

Starting November 17, 2008 , the SEATA Scholarship Committee will be accepting applications from all potential candidates.  Any information submitted before this date will need to be resubmitted.  Now is the time to initiate the application process for SEATA's $1,000.00 scholarships.

If you are a full time undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in the athletic training arena, you may be eligible to apply for a SEATA scholarship.
Applicants must be a junior or senior in academic standing, have at least a 'B' average in their overall curriculum and be members of the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association.

Also, if you are a District 9 member and presently have a dependent enrolled as a junior or senior in an accredited college or university, $500.00 family scholarships are available for you.

MEMORIAL UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

DETAILS

1. The SEATA Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000.00.  The Jerry Rhea/Atlanta Falcons Undergraduate Scholarship Award will be in the amount of $1,000.00.  The Jim Gallaspy Student Leadership Scholarship will be in the amount of $500.00.  All scholarships are for one year only.  Past winners are not eligible.

2. Applications are accepted annually from November 17th to January 7th.

3. Applications are only available online from the SEATA website on the Scholarship Information web page Undergraduate Application Form.

4. The winner will be selected on a combination of academic achievement, character, and athletic training abilities and activities.

5. The scholarship committee is made up of representatives from District Nine.

6. The winners will be notified prior to the Annual Athletic Training Student Symposium in February.  Announcement of the winner and awarding of the scholarship will occur during the banquet of the Symposium.

CRITERIA

1. The applicant must have at least a Junior standing for the upcoming year.

2. The applicant must be enrolled in a curriculum leading to a Bachelor’s degree.

3. The applicant must have a grade point average of “B” or above.

4. The applicant must be sponsored by a certified athletic trainer who is a current member in good standing with the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association

5. The applicant must NOT be currently on full scholarship.

6. The applicant must be a student member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association.

7. It must be the intent of the applicant to pursue the profession of athletic training or related field as a means of his/her livelihood.

8. The applicant must submit an Undergraduate Statement from the Registrar Form from the Registrar of his or her college indicating the applicant’s current grade point average through the most recently completed school term to the District IX Scholarship Committee Chairperson.  (Fall Semester, Fall or Winter Quarter, or other appropriate term ending prior to the application date.)

9. The applicant must request a letter of recommendation from someone other than the supervising athletic trainer.  The recommendation must be submitted via the online Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship Letter of Recommendation Form.  The letter should be from a person felt to be best be able to judge the applicant's qualities and abilities in the areas of academics and social involvement.

10. Utilizing the Undergraduate Application Form, the applicant is required to submit a one-page biographical sketch including a statement as to why he or she feels that they should be awarded the scholarship.

11. The applicant must have his or her supervising athletic trainer complete the Sponsoring Athletic Trainer's Evaluation Form for Undergraduate Applicants.

12. Optional - please email to scholarships@seata.org a recent photograph saved as a .jpg or .gif file using the applicant's last name followed by first name such as DoeJohn.jpg.  This photograph may be published in the SEATA Newsletter, a SEATA eBlast or on the SEATA website.

2. The applicant must have worked as an athletic training student for a period of at least two years at the college level.

3. The applicant must be enrolled in a curriculum leading to a graduate degree.

4. The applicant must have a GPA of “B” or above.

5. The applicant must be sponsored by a certified athletic trainer who is a current member in good standing with the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.

FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

1. Three scholarships are available in the amount of $500.00 each, and are for one year only.  Past winners are not eligible.

4. The winners will be selected on the basis of the member's contributions to the profession and community involvement as well as the dependant's character, school activities, and grade point average.

5. The scholarship committee is made up of representatives from District Nine.

6. The winners will be notified prior to the district meeting in March.  Announcement of the winner and awarding of the scholarship will occur during the awards banquet or the business meeting conducted during the annual district meeting.

CRITERIA

1. The applicant's dependant must be at least a junior in academic standing.

2. The applicant's dependant must have a GPA of 'B' or above.

3. The applicant's dependant must NOT be on full scholarship at the time this scholarship is awarded.

4. The parent/guardian must be a current certified member of the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association.

5. The parent/guardian must have been a certified member in good standing with the Southeast Athletic Trainers Association for the previous five years.

6. The applicant must submit a Family Statement from the Registrar Form from the Registrar of the dependant's college indicating the current grade point average through the most recently completed school term to the District IX Scholarship Committee Chairperson.  (Fall Semester, Fall or Winter Quarter, or other appropriate term ending prior to the application date.)

7. The applicant must request two letters of recommendation.  One should be from a representative of the college and the other from a community or church leader.  The recommendation must be submitted via the online Family Scholarship Letter of Recommendation Form.  Both letters should reflect the scholastic achievement, leadership characteristics, and/or social involvement of the dependant.
