CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
SEATA Athletic Training Student Symposium
Crowne Plaza Ravinia, Atlanta, GA – February 2-4, 2012

DEADLINE** FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:  Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Reports on experimental research, injury surveys, case studies, and/or other research projects that are pertinent to the practice of athletic training are welcomed from athletic training students enrolled in CAATE accredited programs.   Students must be the primary author/researcher with co-authoring by a supervising faculty member and/or clinical faculty affiliated with the institution in which the athletic training student is enrolled.
All abstracts will undergo blind review.


SUBMISSION DIRECTIONS:

  1. The abstract must follow a structured format for one of the following categories. Components of a structured abstract differ by the type of presentation but should include:

    a.   Original Research: Context, Objective, Design, Setting, Patient or Other Participants, Interventions, Main Outcome Measures, Results, Conclusions.

    b.   Clinical Case Reports: Background, Differential Diagnosis, Treatment, Uniqueness, and Conclusions.

  2. The abstract is limited to 500 words and must be typed, single spaced, on a single page with 1” margins on all sides. Type the title of the paper/abstract in all CAPITAL letters starting at the left margin.

  3. On the next line, indent 3 spaces and type the names of all authors, with the presenting author listed first. Type the last name, then initials (without periods), followed by a comma; continue with the other authors (if any), ending with a colon.

  4. Indicate the institution (including the city and state) where the research or case report was conducted on the same line following the name(s) of the author(s). Double space and begin typing the text of the abstract flush left in a single paragraph with no indentations. Do not justify the right margin.

  5. Please forward a cover letter, original abstract, and a blind copy (that which does not indicate any information concerning the author’s name or establishment) via e-mail to strauks@auburn.edu. The e-mail attachments must be formatted as a MS Word document or PDF document. The cover letter should include the primary student author’s mailing address, city, state, zip code, work phone, fax, and e-mail address.  Students may submit for either Free Poster Communication Session  OR Oral Clinical Case Study Presentation- cases will not be considered for both categories; category choice is made by primary student author at time of submission.

  1. In the cover letter YOU MUST indicate your preference as follows:

  1. Original Research – ORAL

  2. Original Research – POSTER

  3. Clinical Case Report – ORAL

  4. Clinical Case Report – POSTER

  1. Specifically, please title the subject line of the e-mail message “SEATA STUDENT ABSTRACT 2012”. Please title your (3) file attachments as follows:

  2. Cover Letter - Include your last name and the word “Cover” (e.g., Jones_Cover.doc)

  3. Original Abstract - Include your last name and the word “Abstract” (e.g., Jones_Abstract.doc)

  4. Blind Copy - Include your last name and the word “Blind” (e.g., Jones_Blind.doc)

NOTE:  If you are submitting by EMAIL then you do not need to submit a Cover Letter; provide all information in the email required in the cover letter and attach to the email the Original Abstract and Blind Copy per the above instructions.

  1. Please submit only if you or co-author(s) are able to attend the meeting. If accepted for presentation, the original abstract will appear as submitted in the conference proceedings notebook. Be sure to carefully check for spelling and grammatical errors before submitting the abstract for review.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE INFORMATION:
All submissions must be received by no later than Wednesday, November 30, 2011.   Paper (MAIL) submissions MUST BE POSTMARKED by no later than Monday, November 28 in order to be considered for presentation.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Free Communication Poster Presentations (Original Research; Clinical Case Study) will be evaluated based on the rubric below.  A TOTAL OF 15 POSTER PRESENTATIONS WILL BE SELECTED.  Selection of the top 15 based on rating order by blind reviewers; if a tie in rating occurs, the top 15 scores may not represent the top 15 percent score.  

Oral Presentations will be evaluated based on the rubric below.  A maximum of 18 oral presenters will be selected to present from the two categories (Original Research; Clinical Case Study).

NOTIFICATION PROCESS:
You will receive a email verification that your submission has been received and accepted within 3 working days.  If you do not receive a written verification within three (3) days after submission (which may be due to email Spam-blocking), please contact Karen Straub Stanton (phone information below).  If accepted for presentation, you will be notified by no later than January 3, 2012 and the original abstract will appear as submitted in the conference proceedings notebook. Be sure to carefully check for spelling and grammatical errors before submitting the abstract for review.
